It is well understood that many Deaf individuals in Malaysia have limited knowledge or only a vague understanding of BIM (Malaysian Sign Language) and Deaf culture within the country. Recognising this, MyBIM launched an initiative to provide educational sessions specifically for the Deaf community via Instagram. This initiative aimed to ensure that Deaf people across Malaysia, regardless of location, had equal opportunities to learn about BIM and gain exposure to Deaf culture.

The sessions began in April 2022 and concluded in December 2022, successfully delivering a total of eight educational programmes led by prominent figures in the Deaf community, including Ms Ho Koon Wei, Mr Amir Hamidi, Ms Josephine Koo, Mr Marzuki Ong, Ms Annie Ong, and Ms Jessica Mak. Each session brought unique insights and expertise to deepen participants’ understanding of BIM and Deaf culture. A special thank you goes to Mr Kevin Mak for his dedicated coordination of this important project.

MyBIM hopes to continue offering similar sessions in the future, further enriching the knowledge and cultural pride of the Deaf community in Malaysia.
